Although I intended to post more from the road that obviously didn't happen. A combination of not enough memorable meals and not having enough time. But here are some things that I'll remember fondly from this trip:
Barcelona: I had an amazing dish of salt cod and beans at the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC). It turned out to be the only salt cod that I ate the entire trip, and it was delicious.
Tossa de Mar: A wonderful dish called arroz negro (black rice). It consisted mostly of rice and squid ink with some seafood mixed in (squid and shrimp), and it was served with some garlicky mayonnaise to mix in. A delicious meal to match a beautiful little town.
Barcelona/Madrid: I had great tapas in both Barcelona and Madrid. I didn't even know what was in most of them, but some of them were stacked impossibly tall and contained a lot of different ingredients.
Paris: I had a really nice meal in a bistro -- duck confit and crispy potatoes swimming in oil. (At this point I really didn't mind that they were swimming in oil -- bring it on! As a result I'm currently going through a bit of withdrawal. For a lot of things...). I also had a really delicious crème brûlée. I finally get it!
Some things I consumed so often that they almost became their own food groups -- like coffee and pastry. These were pretty good in a variety of places -- the coffee almost anywhere, and the pastry in the bigger cities (Barcelona, Madrid, Paris). I also consumed a ridiculous amount of Haribo gummies. These were sold almost everywhere in Spain... so it was totally not my fault ;-).
Honorable mention: The mojitos. I had tasty ones in Barcelona (good memories of that evening), but the most delicious ones were consumed while sitting on a patio in lovely Sevilla.
Oddest thing I ate: Probably the fried whitebait that I ate whole -- head, tail, bones, everything. I also ate some bigger fish, bones and all, and even the head of one of them -- a fun memory if not a tasty one.
